In just a few years, Cabo San Lucas has become one of North America’s hottest golf destinations—and it’s no wonder. The magnificent terrain is comparable to that found in Arizona and California desert golf courses. What sets Los Cabos apart is the presence of the Sea of Cortez, a sparkling water-wonderland of incredible hues reaching as far south as the eye can see. Golfers here in Cabo San Lucas have an added bonus...11 months of rain-free vacation play.
Situated on 1,800 acres and two miles of ocean front, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature ocean course is "where the Bear meets the whales." Experts say this course is destined for greatness, stretching for more than a mile of some of the most breathtaking and awe-inspiring terrain in Los Cabos, with seven holes right on the ocean. Cabo del Sol stretches along one mile of pristine coastline and combines dramatic desert, mountain and ocean views. In its first year of operation The Ocean Course debuted on Golf magazine's list of "Top 100 Courses in the World," ranking 70th. Jack Nicklaus refers to holes 16, 17, and 18 as "the finest three finishing holes in all of golf," and calls Cabo del Sol "the most spectacular golf course property on earth."
CABO DEL SOL Desert Course -
The Desert Course at Cabo del Sol marks one of Tom Weiskopf’s first
forays into Latin America. This 18-hole target-style course fuses
desert, ocean and mountain terrain into a championship layout destined
for world recognition.
The Desert Course at Cabo del Sol marks one of Tom Weiskopf’s first forays into Latin America. This 18-hole target-style course fuses desert, ocean and mountain terrain into a championship layout destined for world recognition. The Desert Course is the second championship golf course featured at Cabo del Sol, an 1800-acre residential golf resort community located in Los Cabos, Mexico. The Tom Weiskopf-designed Desert Course spans gentle rolling desert plains and boasts ocean views from every hole. Weiskopf has combined large landing areas with few forced carries to ensure an enjoyable golf experience for players of all levels, yet still be challenging enough for tournament play. Overall course yardage varies from 4,810 to 7,097 yards, with greens ranging from 5,000 to 7,500 square feet with gentle, subtle rolls and elevation changes. The bunkering is intense around the greens, yet the course is very playable. Wide, yet containing fairway corridors afford golfers great visual appeal off the tee.
The first 18 holes of the championship Cabo Real Golf Course are laid out over more than 7,000 yards. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., with its numerous sand traps and arroyos, the course provides a real challenge for low handicap golfers but is still great fun for beginners. Cabo Real Golf Course is a spectacular example of the art of designing and building a truly challenging golf course. When he first saw Cabo Real, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. set his goal to create "a high quality course that appears to have been designed by its setting, where every hole features vistas of the sea." The 7000 yard course works its way up into the mountains from the first tee to the sixth green. From the sixth hole, it winds its way down the mountain, sneaks past the lake on the ninth fairway to the ninth green. Here you can stop for a well deserved snack at the clubhouse. After a refreshing break, head on down to the Sea of Cortez for a more relaxing back nine. That's the first 18. Construction on the second 18 within the Cabo Real development, El Dorado, has just been completed.
The Palmilla Golf Club, opened in December of 1992, is Latin America's first Jack Nicklaus signature course. Jack Nicklaus was brought in to design his first course in Los Cabos, featuring the front "Arroyo Nine" and back "Mountain Nine." Nicklaus described the design as "…designing desert mountains by the sea." Palmilla offers golfers spectacular views of the Sea of Cortèz from nearly every hole as it winds through centuries-old cardon cacti and rugged desert mountain terrain, making each hole a memorable experience for golfers of every skill level. The course is divided into the 3,337-yard Arroyo Nine, the 3,602-yard Mountain Nine and the 3,548-yard Ocean Nine. The five sets of staggered tee boxes ensure golfers, from beginners to professionals, an exciting game. The Ocean Nine layout, featuring a 600' elevation change from holes one to six, takes advantage of the natural desert and mountain terrain, and features challenging directional changes. Several of the holes are within a pitching wedge of the ocean and boast panoramic views of the Sea of Cortéz. Please Note: The Ocean nine will be closed from July 2009 - November 2009 for renovations.
At the southernmost tip of Baja California, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, unspoiled desert melts into emerald waters. Days are sunny, humidity is low, vegetation is lush. Is any place more perfect for golf? The beautiful Cabo San Lucas Club is open to the public and is the only course in Los Cabos located close enough to town for a reasonable taxi ride. With elevation changes of 300 feet and subtle terracing up the hillside, the Country Club's sensational Dye designed championship course offers the area's only fairway views of Land's End, San Lucas Bay and the Sea of Cortez. Groves of magnificent palo blanco trees and stately cardon cactus accent the lush expanses of sprawling fairways and nine sparkling lakes.
